This next one is a really nice ’55 built by Vic Gilkes and his wife, Maria. Thanks for sending your pics and story, Vic. Car came out great.
Vic writes… “This 1955 210 Chevy was given to me by my wife’s cousin back in 1988. The car had three coats of paint, body rot all over, and a hole in the 265 block. It was a three speed on the tree, the interior, and wires were totally dry rotted, however the car was only missing 1 wheel cover.
Maria and I completed a total frame off restoration with Danchuk parts. I took the drive train from 1989 Chevy Suburban, built the 350 into a 383 Stroker, 0.30 over, 10.5 to 1 compression, 0.50 inch cam with 202 stainless steel valves and guides, topped with a 750 CFM Quick Fuel Slayer Series carburetor. Carefully rebuilt the 700R4 transmission back to original condition for cruising. I added an IDIDIT steering column along with a Billet Industries steering wheel, and a Dakota digital dash, we even converted the windshield wipers from the old vacuum style to an electric two speed motor, added front disc brakes and power steering. All new interior from Danchuk, ” The Best” I painted the car the original colors, Onyx Black with the interior Turquoise Blue. This Chevy is truly a dream to drive, I really want to give Thanks to my wife’s cousin for giving me the car. OH… And Danchuk too, for supplying some really good quality parts”.

We will close up this week with this ’57 that has been in Brad Swicegood’s family since his Dad got it in 68-69. Thanks for sending in the pics, Brad. Great story.
Brad writes… “Short of a long story lots of history here. My dad bought the car circa 1968-69 drove the car to high school ( picture of car in blue with gray tilt front clip is from then) and street raced it quite a bit with a 327 a C3B intake and Holley 3 barrel, muncie M21, 12 bolt from a nova and 4.88s. My brother and I played in the car every Sunday while visiting our grandma for dinner. I think we put 100 thousand miles on the car it never moved an inch. Dad gave me the roller for graduation. It’s been through many transformations over the years. Dad passed in July 2014 at 61 from lung cancer. The car had been sitting for a couple years awaiting a new engine. In Sept 2016 my son and I installed the new 1000 hp 565 and took it on its first ride and got a couple miles from home when tragedy struck and the car caught fire. Its at the chassis shop getting rebuilt at this time into a dual cert 25.2/25.7 legal 3/4 chassis with stock front suspension for a local Drag Radial class. I have plenty of pictures taken of the rebuild and a ton of the car over the years. It’s not just a car to us its part of the family”.
